Customs and Import Fees for EU Orders
UPDATED: July 2026
Since the UK left the EU in 2021, customers in the EU have sadly had to pay additional fees on their orders.
Until recently, these fees were applied by the local postal carrier before delivery can take place. As a very small business which is not VAT-registered, UndeadTeds has never needed (or wished!) to collect these additional fees in advance, at checkout.
However, this month (July 2026) the EU has begun to introduce changes that place the burden of import fees collection onto retailers. As such, UndeadTeds needs to adapt.
All EU customers will now need to pay import fees upfront at the time of placing an order. UndeadTeds will then pay these fees directly to the courier at the time of shipment.
At this time, the fees consist of VAT (variable by EU member state) and a new fixed duty fee. There is also a small handling charge by Royal Mail, but I will absorb this as part of the cost of shipping. These costs will be clearly stated when viewing your basket and at checkout.
This change does offer some important benefits for customers:
- No more unexpected fees – after placing the order, there will be nothing more to pay.
- You’ll know the cost of import fees at checkout – no nasty surprises right before delivery!
- Your order will clear customs more quickly and therefore arrive sooner.
I do hope you’ll feel that your UndeadTed is worth the additional cost. As always, thank you for your custom and support. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about these changes.
